Happy Year of the Horse!

We had a joyous Chinese New Year this Friday, starting with our dragon parade through Lower School Chapel.  The parade happened pretty quickly, but there are more pictures posted here on Breck's facebook page.

The children volunteered during play time to put together the dragon head using paper collage, fluorescent paints and glitter modge-podge.  Because everything is better with glitter!

The dragons featured in the books The Dancing Dragon and My First Chinese New Year were the inspiration for our design.

At afternoon snack, we opened our lucky red envelopes with coins inside!  We talked about how the color red is considered lucky and is visible in many Chinese New Year materials and decorations.

We also visited the terracotta warrior in the Upper School lobby and imagined what it would be like to see thousands of warriors standing like real soldiers.  Come see it if you have not yet had the chance!

We are going to take a closer look at Emperor Qin's terracotta army on Monday with a few short videos as well.  There is also some interesting information about the Emperor and the clay army in the video here.
