At the close of the week, we branched out into symmetry.  We explored pictures of insects and animals and thought about symmetry in nature.  We discussed how to use lines of symmetry as well.

In our math workshop, some children built symmetrical block structures on the ipad...

and some worked in partners playing match, where one child created an image on one side, and their partner created a symmetrical image.  The goal was to see the line of symmetry, and make it symmetrical rather than merely copying.

Some children worked on 3D symmetry--cool!

And then we used radial symmetry to create geometric shape snowflakes--they are hanging in our classroom!
