Westwood Hills Winter Trip

We had a fresh covering of snow for our trip to the nature center today.  We started out by investigating the animals inside.

The guides helped us sort the animals we are studying by their winter behavior.  Do they stay active, migrate, or become dormant?

We learned that sunfish stay active in the cold water below the ice, but slow down and almost become dormant as the oxygen level decreases at the end of winter.

Then it was time for our nature walk!  We couldn't help enjoy the fresh snow...
