Introduction to Writing and Reading Workshop

We jumped right into our writing and reading this week with Writers Workshop and Readers Workshop. For Writers Workshop, we began by telling a story and adding some labeling. As the fall continues, we will begin to explore writing more narratives across one page and then across pages to tell someone all about a personal experience.

In Readers' Workshop, we began our comparative literature study with two gingerbread stories, The Gingerbread Boy and The Gingerbread Man.  The children noted the different setting and characters of each story, but predicted correctly that the gingerbread boy gets eaten in both versions!

Next week, we will explore a few more versions of the story and think more closely about differences and similarities across texts.

After our read-aloud stories, the children spent some time reading familiar picture books to help build our "reading stamina."

Keep reading this weekend!

  1. I can't wait to find out more about your class investigate about the different gingerbread stories. I wonder if there is a version where he gets away?!?
